November 20 is the international Transgender Day of Remembrance, an opportunity for communities to come together and mark the passing of transgender and gender-variant individuals, or those perceived to be transgender.

  1. The transgender day of remembrance is to draw attention to transgender people who have been murdered. I’m of the opinion that transgender suicides should be included in this. Society lives with the idea that there are only two sexes and that these are fixed and unchangeable. It is this fixed position that creates the hostile social setting that causes transgender suicides. It might not be murder but it drives the transgender person to take their own life. The driving force behind transgender murders and suicides is the same hatred for difference and diversity. May my transgender sisters and brothers who have lost their lives rest in peace.
